View Full Version : What are your WoW Cataclysm plans?

Well it's official Cataclysm comes out on Dec 7th.

I was wondering what everyone's plans are.

If you play wow do you plan to get Cataclysm?

Do you plan to get the regular $40 version or the $79 Collectors Edition which is pretty much just tons of junk and most people only want it for the pet lol.

Are you ordering a disc and having it shipped to you shortly after Dec 7th or are you waiting at a store at midnight Dec 6th or do you plan to just download it online and chance that the servers let you?

Do you plan to play right when the game starts after midnight or are you not in to much of a rush?


I'm not really sure what I plan to do just yet. I first bought WoW months after the Lich King came out so I'd say I'm most worried about how crazy and crowded the servers will be the first couple days?

Ya Ill get it. I am saving al my Frost just for that. Bad thing is my mains on another server :( But I do have that 80 DK and I might start up again with him just to hang with you all. :)

I've had my 6 years of WoW, or however long it's been. I'm gonna keep playing until my subscription expires end of this month then take a break from MMOs until SWToR arrives. I might pick up Cataclysm at a later date, I won't rule it out forever, such an epic game will always hold a nostalgic place in my gamer heart.

The Old Republic for the win. I knew I was gonna be fully committed to SWToR when it came out, so I knew at some point I would be quitting WoW, so I figured why keep playing. Wow is great, but I have faith in SWToR and I am a huge SW fan.

I was always an old school fantasy D&D style game fan and never really got into the Sci-Fi genre.
So after growing up on actual D&D games, Baulders Gate, Neverwinter Nights and playing some Diablo and Warcraft I - III. I have a lot of hope in Cataclysm until Diablo III actually moves into the light lol.

I grew up playing D&D, it's just the market is so flooded with "Fantasy" style games, but I will defenitely be getting Diablo 3. To tell the truth, I wished they had a "Mad Max" style mmo. I am a little tired of Sci Fi and Fantasy, I want a little more diversity in my games. Had high hopes for APB but oh well.

Played borderlands and didn't like it much. Besides I want a true Post Apocalyptic game. Not Fallout 3 (although it was an awesome game)
Nuclear fallout doesn't create giant ants and mutants. I want something with modern weapons and modern technology (no sci-fi ray guns, and no fantasy swords of monkey's assbane lol)

I wonder what you do in the Michael Jackson MMO? Lure little boys into your bed and give them cough syrup. Maybe get that epic Glitter Glove with +20 sodemy enchant.

You can and I probably will but with millions of people probably doing the same thing there isn't a great chance of downloading gigs of info the night the servers go live with Cata, The collectors ed is hard copy only for those who get that. You can preorder and pick it up on midnight but there is a good chance the stores will have enough copies either way.

that was already addressed and blizzard asked that you set the launcher to auto download while you play also to get big patches they said are coming BEFORE the release. I would rather have a hard copy of game that way its install and play,not hours downloading.

The patch for Cata came out yesterday, 4.0.1 I HATE redoing my talent!

I've fixed my priests Holy spec and it's actually really nice, I'm pretty much going to ignore all my other characters for the moment lol.

We have had HUGE increases in our Health, Mana and Power. While some classes or specs have been nerfed and killed, most have been boosted.

This means two things:
1) We are going to be really powerful and will be able to blow though ICC raids now lol.
2) Cataclysm is going to be really hard and once we start leveling 5 man dungeons are going to kick out asses.

Probably 80% of our addons are dead..

There definitely is a raping going on right now with 5g glyphs selling for between 50g-200g.. But on the plus side, once you learn a glyph it is permanent now lol and even if you change it that character never has to buy it again.

The Vanishing powder is some dumb thing Blizzard came up with as an eraser for your glyph book.. for around 34 silver you get 5 Vanishing Powders from the Inscription mat vendor.

I'm ok with this since they got rid of those darn holy candles I use to need for buffs, that cost more and I went through like crazy!

Don't know if you guys have heard yet - but the arena gear that previously required an arena rating to purchase can be bought with your regular honor points (converted from battlegrounds, marks, and stonekeeper shards). It still shows up red on the vendor menus, but it can still be purchased. Blizzard said it wasn't a bug. I bought an iLvL270 offhand for 70 honor points :)

Just went to Gamestop to preorder another copy of Cata and the guy found that they just today were able to give the option of Collectors Editions for the first time in months.

If you preordered a regular edition and you wanted the Collectors the night the game comes out you might want to check your local store.

and I thought it was just me,lol. I was in dungeons and dc twice. Today also but after I couldnt log back on I realized that my router and modem had to be reset. If you open launcher, you might show a message showing "applying critical updates". Wait until it finishes and then log on. I have not had a problem so far since this morning.

For those of you who do not want to wait in line but want the play Cataclysm right away, Blizzard just opened preorders off of battle.net. You can buy the game and download/install it now then start playing 12:01 Dec 7th.

If you haven't played WoW in a while but still have an account I recommend logging in to update your version and also to do some of the special Pre-Cata quests that have just come out.

There is a way to preinstall Cata even if you don't buy the online preorder and plan to get the box from a store so you can be ready to play sooner.

Pre-orders for the Cataclysm digital upgrade (http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/10/28/cataclysm-digital-upgrade-now-available-for-pre-order/) are officially open, and you can start downloading the remainder of the expansion's data the moment your purchase goes through. But what if you're awaiting a Collector's Edition or you don't have the money to upgrade online right now? You don't want to be left waiting for Cataclysm to download and install on launch night.

Thankfully, we've got you covered. There's an easy way to preload all the data you'll need to play Cataclysm the moment it goes live on midnight Dec. 7. Just follow these easy steps:

Make sure World of Warcraft and/or the launcher and background downloader are completely closed.
Open up your World of Warcraft folder.
Open Launcher.wtf in Notepad and change the "accountType" line from LK to CT.
Open Config.wtf in Notepad and change the "accountType" line from LK to CT.

Now load up the launcher and you should begin downloading 700 megs or so of new material. That's the last bit of data you need to play on launch night. Enjoy!

Remember: This will only give you the necessary files to play Cataclysm. It will not upgrade your account and you will not be able to access Cataclysm features. You still need to buy the game if you want to play on launch day.

You need to get all the expansions as far as I know. But LK should see a price drop.

Cataclysm will effect everyone though, even people who only have vanilla WoW will technically be in the Cata world, they just won't have access to the 80+ zones.

Blizzard is giving everyone with non-active account a free week worth of play time so you can see what has happened to WoW and if you want to give it a try for the first time the prices Scorp listed are amazing!

Everyone who has tried WoW in the past should at least hop on to see everything, things as VERY different now! Graphics are better, you'll be able to fly in the Old World in a couple weeks and there are tons of new low level quests that are really fun. They have changes a lot of the mechanics behind how everything from questing to gear to rep works.

I hope to see some of you on some time.

Well I picked up my Collectors Edition and second standard copy. I had it preordered it at Best buy luckily because the CE is sold out everywhere. Its pretty sweet but sucks that you have to have 212 gold to train to fly in Kalimdor and Eastern kingdoms. I took the day off today for Cataclysm but jeez, I already see some level 83's in the game.

I think Doc is almost 83 and my main just hit 82 a few minutes ago. The first 85s are averaging 8 to 10 hours so far - very hardcore lol.

Yeah I hit a bit over 83 before bed last night.. I started playing around 3am, took an hr off around 7am, off between 12-2, off from 8-9 then went to bed around 11pm. It burn me out enough lol considering I didn't get to nap the morning before.

Not to much catching up to do since everyone pretty much replaces all their gear by 82. Kinda sad loosing all that hard fought for ICC gear but I guess it's good to level the playing field now and then ;).

Since I hit 85 a couple days ago on my Priest I'm going to work on my Neglected 80 Hunter now. I turned him into a Goblin to make it more fun.
